BLURB:
Brody Markham has endured a nightmare, spending the last five years in prison and losing everything that was dear to him. Now he’s back home, trying to survive in a world he doesn’t recognize anymore. While his family and friends desperately try to reach through to him, he shelters himself further and further away from their love.

Alyssa Myers has worked her entire life to distance herself from the luxurious and privileged lifestyle in which she was raised. Running her non-profit agency, The Haven, she is content to spend her days helping abused animals find sanctuary, which fulfills her in a way that money just can’t buy.

Maybe it’s that she recognizes in Brody some of the same characteristics she sees in her homeless wards, but Alyssa is powerless to stop her personal quest to make Brody whole again.

While Brody struggles to surface from the darkness, Alyssa tries to protect her heart in case he’s not willing to accept the light that she offers him.

Incredibly Powerful - One of Sawyer's Best Novels Yet!!

REVIEW:
The story:
Fresh out of prison, Brody Markham is struggling to adapt to a normal life. In an attempt to protect himself from anymore pain and heartache, he shuts himself off from his family & friends. But Alyssa Myers isn't one to give up easily and she sees a kind and caring man underneath the emotionless facade he portrays. As Brody spends time at Alyssa's animal shelter, for he's community service hours, he starts to realise that she's not the trust fund princess he initially thought she was, and a tentative relationship forms between them. Brody is a lot like the rescued animals they care for, he's been hurt in the past and just needs someone to care for and show him love. And Alyssa is the one who breaks through his protective walls and shows him that their is hope in his future.

If that's not enough drama for you, Alyssa is also facing some demons of her own. Only hers come in the form of her ex boyfriend, Chad, who won't take no for an answer. As he's actions escalate Brody becomes more and more concerned about just how far Chad will go to get Alyssa back. With so many obstacles for them to overcomes, can Alyssa and Brody's new romance survive?

The characters:
Brody has been to hell and back, and would have evert reason to hate the world. But instead of screaming or fighting, he keeps all he's emotions bottled up and closed off from everybody. He's been carrying a burden on his shoulder for so long, it was so painful to watching him struggle to deal with all the hurt. But Brody embraces his second chance at happiness and I loved to see him grow into a strong and caring man. Simply put, I LOVED Brody.

Alyssa Myers is the light to Brody's dark. She's bright and bubbly and a very 'no fuss' kind of girl. She's not afraid to get her hand dirty - literally. She works so unbelievably hard at her animal shelter and shows both the animals and Brody unconditional love and support.

The romance:
Brody and Alyssa are both such kind and loving characters, that watching them fall in love and find happiness together was simply beautiful. After all the pain Brody has gone through in jail and the heartache that Alyssa has endured from an unaffectionate mother, they are both looking to be taken care of and loved for who they are - and that's exactly what their romance is all about. They also know how to steam up the pages too! ;)

The writing:
Something that Sawyer does really well is write with variety. With a lot of romance authors, their characters, stories and even the love scenes, often start to feel very similar. But not Sawyer's. This is the 7th book of her's I've read, and each one has unique characters and some extremely creative love scenes!

FINAL WORD:
Brody is possibly my new favourite character of Sawyers (tied with Cillian from Off Course). He is what made this book so intense and emotional! Make It A Double was so incredibly powerful and overall one of Sawyer's best novels yet!!

CONTENT:
Sexuality: medium-strong / several sex scenes
Violence: mild
Language: medium / some f words
Drugs & alcohol: mild
