BLURB:
Since the car crash that took her father’s life three years ago, Emma’s life has been a freaky — and unending — lesson in caution. Surviving “accidents” has taken priority over being a normal seventeen-year-old, so Emma spends her days taking pictures of life instead of living it. Falling in love with a boy was never part of the plan. Falling for a reaper who makes her chest ache and her head spin? Not an option.

It’s not easy being dead, especially for a reaper in love with a girl fate has put on his list not once, but twice. Finn’s fellow reapers give him hell about spending time with Emma, but Finn couldn’t let her die before, and he’s not about to let her die now. He will protect the girl he loves from the evil he accidentally unleashed, even if it means sacrificing the only thing he has left…his soul.

A unique story about, life, death and redemption

REVIEW:
The story:
I've read lots of books with different paranormal creatures before, but this is my first books about Reapers, and I have to say I loved it! A Reaper is someone sent to collect the souls of those who have died, and they take them to either Heaven, Hell or the Inbetween. The Inbetween, being exactly what it sounds like, neither Heaven or Hell, but somewhere inbetween. Finn is a Reaper who collects souls for the Inbetween, and after discovering Em (the love of his previous life) is in danger. He's stop at nothing to save her.

After almost dying in a car accident that killed her father, Em has been having more and more near death experiences. Everyone tells her they're just freak accidents, but Em believes someone is after her. And now with a mysterious boy, claiming to be there to protect her, she's more confused than ever. Finn, breaks the rules by trying to protect Em from the vengeful actions of Maeuve, a shadowed soul with an axe to grind against Finn. As the accidents get worse, and Em's life is at risk, just how far will Finn go to save the girl he loves?

The characters:
Emma has had it rough, loosing her father, and then going on to believe she's hallucinating with these 'accidents'. She's a sweet character and loyal to her best friend Cash. She's always been quiet and reserved, believing that the freak accidents will eventually kill her, so she's never planned her future. But with Finn around, she's more relaxed and feels safe, for the first time in a long time.

Finn is such a genuinely kind guy. He's so dedicated to protecting Em from Maeve that he's willing to break every rule even if it means spending his eternity in Hell. It tortures him being so close to Em, knowing that a relationship or even touching Em is forbidden, and seeing him struggle trying to suppress his feelings was tragic.

And then there's Cash, Em's best friend. He's hot, cocky and truly cares about Em. I loved Cash, and his character is really well fleshed out. He's story will be awesome!

The romance:
I really enjoyed the teasing flirtatious banter between Luke & Violet. At first the insults where a defence mechanism to keep each other at arms length. But as they spent more time together it started to become more fun and seeing them make each other laugh, was beautiful, since it was such a rare thing for either of them. They both had such a great understanding of how they had dealt with their horrible childhoods, that it brought them closer together. Their romance was really well developed.

The writing:
What I am really happy about with this series is that each one is a companion novel and a complete story. Instead of stretching Emma & Finn's story out over three books, we get to focus on Cash in the next book.

FINAL WORD:
Inbetween is unique story about, life, death and redemption. I really enjoyed Em and Finn's book and am really excited to read Cash's story next!

CONTENT:

Sexuality: medium / heavy kissing, discussions of sex
Violence: mild / car accident
Language: mild
Drugs & alcohol: some underage drinking

  5. Wonderful Review Amy! I love when stories are companion novels in a series, that way they can be read as a stand alone, and as you said, not stretched out. Emma, Finn, and Cash all sound like great characters! I love teasing and flirtatious banter, and Reapers are one of my favorite paranormal beings to read about!!!
