Feature & Follow Friday #14

"The Feature & Follow is hosted by TWO hosts, Parajunkee of Parajunkee's View and Alison of Alison Can Read."

Q: How do you handle a book you don’t like? Do you DNF or do you power through?

I really hate not finishing a book, I usually keep going or at least skim if it's really bad.

But lately I've had so many books to read that I've had to DNF a couple of bad ones. I feel bad, but there are just too many great books out there to waste my time reading something I'm not enjoying.

  1. I've done both but lately with reading more, I'll DNF if it's not working for me. Time is valuable!

    1. So true! My limited reading time is so precious to me it seems a shame to waste it on something I'm not enjoying

  2. For me, I just don't have time to power through a book I don't like. There's way too many books on my TBR to waste time with a book I'm not enjoying even a little bit.

    1. I think time is a huge factor in DNFing a book. As bloggers we have so many review books to read + books I want to read for myself!

    1. Yeah, it does feel really horrible to DNF a book, considering all the hard work the author has put into it

  4. It's so bad when books are so predictable that you can read the first chapter, a random middle chapter, and the last chapter and still understand 90% of the plot. I've resorted to skimming books a lot, but I hate writing reviews for those because I feel like I cheated the system.

    1. Yeah I know what you mean - it feels unfair to to author. But I always make a note of it in my reviews if I did skim. That way it's up to the readers weather or not they want to listen to my opinion of the book ;)

    1. Congrats Amber :) Yeah I prefer not to review a DNF book either - doesn't seem fair to the author

  13. Usually I will give it 50-100 pages but it has to be fast-paced to keep my interest. I just don't have the time to power through anymore. I'm picky about what I read though so only have 1 DNF so far, !

  15. I feel the same way Amy. And I have had a few books where I've skimmed through, because I feel guilty about not finishing books! But you're right. Who has time to waste when we have so many other books to review?!

Thanks for stopping by earlier chica!

    1. There are so many great books out there now, especially from some of the lesser known indie authors, that skimming has become a little more common than it used to be for me. But at least there is always another book on the TBR pile :)
