SHATTERED Synopsis:
Alyssa Boyd had big plans. Big plans that included getting the hell out of the little town she’d grown up in with her two best friends. When she decided it was time to let one of them know her true feelings for him; a change of plans resulted in a tragic turn of events. Now, Alyssa is left alone to find her way out of the darkness that an untimely death has left in its wake. Jesse Vaughn was never good at letting people in. He’d learned a long time ago that it’s easier that way because people leave, or, unfortunately, die. The one person he wanted to let in doesn’t want him anymore. The only problem is he can’t stop thinking about her. Jesse returns to the childhood home he left behind with one goal in mind… to convince her that they should be together. When Jesse finds Alyssa she’s not the same girl he left behind. She’s wild, reckless and hell-bent on not giving Jesse a second chance. Lucky for Jesse, his stubborn streak has always been a mile-wide and he’s not about to give up on her. When your life has been shattered can you really pick up all the pieces and move on?

EXCERPT:
Jesse Vaughn was back. Was he the one who took me home from the party last night? Why didn’t I remember? How drunk was I? It had been nine long months since I’d last seen him, or even heard from him for that matter. I turned back to face January and Hap in utter disbelief. “Yep.” Hap nodded with a confirming smile. January’s expression matched her boyfriend’s. They were excited about the possible reunion of Jesse and me. January knew everything that almost happened, so it went without saying that Hap was clued in. I hated to break it to them, but this wasn’t going to be the happily ever after that they’d hoped for. As much as I wanted to run up, wrap my arms around his neck and tell him how much I’d missed him, I couldn’t fight the dormant anger that I’d let be suppressed by the sadness and guilt. He left me. It was bad enough that Garrett was gone, but that wasn’t his choice. Jesse had left because he wanted to. I brought my hands up and covered my face, hoping he would walk back out the door before I had to face him. “Hey, Lyss.” The tone of his voice was hesitant, surely he knew I was in shock to see him. “How are you?” It was hard to tell if he meant, “How are you? It’s been nine months since I last saw you.” or “How are you after getting completely shit-faced last night?” Just hearing his deep, raspy voice sent a ripple across my skin. I really thought he was gone. I looked up to see him standing beside our table. He looked the same. He’d let his hair grow out, just a little bit longer, but it was same jet-black color and messy tousled look I remembered. The glow of his suntanned skin led me to believe that he’d been hiding out somewhere sunny as opposed to what I’d assumed, which was that he must have crawled under a rock and died, or fell off the face of the earth. Why else would he have just completely disappeared from my life? Everything that had happened the night of Garrett’s accident flashed in my mind. I couldn’t even begin to form a complete sentence. Instead, I pushed out of the booth and looked directly in the eyes I’d tried to forget. “Don’t,” was all I could come up with before I ran out of the diner. “Alyssa, please.” He followed me out the door. “Can’t we just talk?” “No!” I yelled out, not breaking my stride as I walked across the street. His hands stopped mine before I could pull the car door open and escape. The contact of our skin sent a shock up my arm. “Please.” I turned to see the desperation in his eyes. He pulled his lip between his teeth and brushed a stray hair from my cheek. His hand rested on my cheek. I caught myself turning my face into his strong, warm hand and quickly pulled away. As much as I wanted to fight it, everything that I’d felt for him was still there. I still wanted him to touch me. To kiss me. The guilt and anger that accompanied the desire was too much. “I can’t do this, Jesse.” I pulled my face from his and quickly sunk behind the wheel of my car. I drove away, leaving him alone on the street. I wasn’t ready to talk to him. To ask him the string of questions that had been running through my head for months. To explain my erratic behavior the night before. I wasn’t ready for any of it. So, I did the only thing I could think of to avoid the entire situation. I went home, opened the desk drawer and retrieved my new foolproof method of not dealing with it.

Author: Susan Mallery
Published: 29th April 2014
Age Group: Adult
Genre: Contemporary Romance

Rating: 3.5/5

BLURB:
New York Times bestselling author Susan Mallery invites you back to Fool's Gold, where a newcomer to town might finally meet the man she never knew she needed…

Angel Whittaker earned his scars the hard way, but the scars that can't be seen are the ones that haunt him the most. Since he moved to Fool's Gold, California, he's cobbled together a life for himself as a bodyguard trainer. If he's not exactly happy, at least his heart is safe.

Working with pro-football superstars taught tough-talking PR woman Taryn Crawford one thing—she can go toe to toe with any man. But then dark, dangerous former Special Ops Angel targets her for seduction…and challenges her to resist his tempting kisses.

Even in four-inch heels, Taryn never backs down. Unless, somehow, Angel can convince her that surrender might feel even better than victory.

REVIEW:
The story:
Taryn is a smart, confident and independent business woman, and moving into a small town like Fool's Gold is quite challenging. But one of the locals, Angel, grabs her attention from the beginning. Their mutual attraction is evident, and the fact that they are both after a fun, so strings attached fling, it all seems perfect. However as their relationship heats up, emotions start to get involved and that's when things get complicated.

Angel is still tormented by the loss of his wife and teenage son. After loosing them in a car accident, while he was away he continually beats himself up for not being there to protect them. As a result he's sworn off any new relationship, in fear of not being able to protect them either. Taryn on the other hand, grew up in an unloving and abusive home, and is closed off from any kind of intimate relationship. But as they grow closer they start to realise that falling in love isn't something that you can control.

The characters:
Angel, the scary, hard core ex Special Ops, with a scars both inside and out, was a complex character. He never gotten over the fact that he couldn't protect he's wife and son from dying in a car accident and as a result has shut himself off from any emotion connections, afraid he won't be able to protect them either.

Taryn was perhaps a little more difficult to connect with. She loves high fashion labels and spends a fortune of shoes. She also has several different animal skin items like a snake skin purse etc (which as an animal loving vegetarian was difficult for me to be okay with) Taryn is by no means a bad character, I think it's just for me personally I couldn't relate to her personality or attitude.

The romance:
The romance in this book, is all about healing and learning to trust again. At first neither are looking for a serious relationship or any kind of commitment. Their romance starts out as just a fun and sexy romance. But gradually they connection between them grows stronger and it becomes obvious that they are both developing real feeling for each other. But Taryn's reluctance to trust anyone with her heart and Angel's fear of not being able to protect her, prevents them from making any sort of commitment. It was really sweet watching them finally realise how they felt and do something about it.

The writing:
Susan Mallery has a really nice writing style. It's fast pace and has plenty of humour to keep things light and fun. The setting of this series is excellent, with plenty of side characters from past novels bring the town to life. The pacing was excellent with a tense and exciting climax to the story!

FINAL WORD:
While I didn't connect with the heroine as well as I have with some of the previous books, I don't think it will be an issue for most readers. When We Met is another sweet and fluffy romance for the Fools Gold series.

A Fun & Vibrant Story With A Colourful Cast Of Characters!

REVIEW:
The story:
Cat Crawford, a fun and quirky girl, with a sweet boyfriend, awesome best friend and dotting father is finally feeling like she's found her place in the world. But after her famous mother reappears in Cat's life after being absent since she was only five, her world spins out of control. Cat's always avoided the spotlight, but she desperately wants the love and attention of her mother, so she endures the persistent paparazzi in hopes of building a relationship.

Meanwhile, Cat's boyfriend, Lucas is dealing with his own issues. All he wants to do is becomes an artist, but he's being pressured by his father to pursue football, a sport that was a dream of he's late brother. Lucas feels like he's living in the shadow of his brother and will never live up to the memory he left behind. He also struggles to help Cat deal with the sudden appearance of her mother and all the paparazzi. He wants to be there for her, but as Cat starts to put up walls to protect herself from being hurt again, Lucas fears she may shut him out too. Can Lucas & Cat survive the all these new pressures?

The characters:
I adore Cat! She's one of the liveliest and funniest characters I've read, with some of the best lines ever! She tells it like it is and has such a spunky attitude, that it's impossible not to love her. But underneath that, there is an insecure girl, who just wants to be accepted and loved - something that most girls can relate to in one way or another.

Lucas, oh what can I say that will do justice to this sexy Italian artist. He is just such a sweet guy and you can see how much he adores Cat and treats her with so much respect. He puts so much thought and effort into making Cat happy - is particular the date he too her on that was inspired by one of her favourite movies - BEST SCENE EVER!!

Cat's cousin Alessandra and her surfer boyfriend Austin are back for the fun. And I just love how kind and caring Cat's father & step-mother-to-be are. It's refreshing to see in a YA book, compared to the usually absent parents. And rounding out the cast, we have Cat's estranged celebrity Mother Caterina, and new character Ransom - who I won't tell you much about as it will spoil the surprise, but I can tell you that I LOVE HIM!!!!

The romance:
Cat & Lucas' romance is so sweet I found myself grinning like an idiot whenever they were in a scene together. It's obvious they both love each other, but they both struggle with their own insecurities, that threaten to tear them apart. They have to learn how to trust one another to make their relationship work.

The writing:
I love Rachel's writing style - it's fun, colourful and full of life. The dialogue is one of my favourite elements in her books, with every character having their own distinct voice. With lots misunderstandings and plenty of drama to push the plot along at a fast pace, there is never a dull moment is this story.

FINAL WORD:
I absolutely loved this book! With a colourful cast of characters and a fast paced, drama packed plot, My Not So Super Sweet Life is a must read!

CONTENT:
Sexuality: mild-medium / some heavy kissing
Violence: none
Language: medium / occasional f words
Drugs & alcohol: none

ABOUT RACHEL HARRIS

Rachel Harris writes humorous love stories about sassy girls-next-door and the hot guys that make them swoon. Emotion, vibrant settings, and strong families are a staple in each of her Rachel Harrisbooks…and kissing. Lots of kissing.

A Cajun cowgirl now living in Houston, she firmly believes life’s problems can be solved with a hot, sugar-coated beignet or a thick slice of king cake, and that screaming at strangers for cheap, plastic beads is acceptable behavior in certain situations. She homeschools her two beautiful girls and watches way too much Food Network with her amazing husband.

An admitted Diet Mountain Dew addict, she gets through each day by laughing at herself, hugging her kids, and losing herself in story. She writes young adult, new adult, and adult romances, and LOVES talking with readers!

BLURB:
A sexy, sugar-laden David vs Goliath story about a local bakery, a national chain, and what really matters.

Clover Loveday has worked hard to get her café Four-Leaf Clover up and running — her ticket out of an increasingly alarming financial situation and her dream come true. When she literally falls off her ladder into the arms of sexy-as-sin Liam Sinclair. The same Liam Sinclair who owns the new bakery being built just across the road...the new store by bakery chain Upper Crust owner! Clover decides then that no matter how nauseated she is about the idea, it is best keep your enemies close, rather than leave things to fate.

Liam has never put too much thought into the competition when he opens a new outlet, other than taking their customers and strengthening the Upper Crust brand. But here in the beautiful Dandenong Ranges, Clover Loveday’s cafe is a little too close for comfort, and Clover herself a little too good-looking. So Liam asks his PA to put together a ’fact sheet’ about his new competition. He has a business to run, a father to please, and hundreds of people to keep in jobs. Surely information can keep an unwanted strong sexual pull at bay...

A sweet, caffeinated, satisfying story about unexpected temptations, forgiveness, and putting love before money.

A Sweet And Endearing Story

REVIEW:
The story:
This was such a light and fluffy romance, just the way I like them! Clover has just opened her cafe, Four Leaf Clover, something that she has had to work extremely hard for and continues to, just to make ends meat. She's still paying off a debt that her father left when he died and her mother's medical bills are starting to increase. On the other end of the scale, Liam has arrived in town organise the opening of a new Upper Crust Bakery - a national franchise conglomerate. On principal, Clover immediately dislikes Liam, afraid he and his business will undercut her and push her out of business. But as they get to know each other she starts to see that he's not the evil business man she initially thought he was. But for Clover and Liam learning to trust one anther is the big issue. Can they both overcome their trust issues and create a future for themselves?

The characters:
Clover is a hardworking and extremely selfless woman. She pushes herself to the limits to make Four Leaf Clover a success, and never gives up on making a better life for her and her mother. She's stubborn and extremely proud. And is very reluctant to ask for help and often refuses it even when it's offered.

Liam worked hard to make his family's business a success, but unlike Clover he doesn't have the emotional support of a parent. His father is cold and makes his decisions based purely on financial gain. After meeting Clover and her mother, Liam starts to realise that the warmth and affection that was missing from his childhood. It's because of this and being burnt in a past relationship that makes him struggle with trusting Clover.

The romance:
After only a short time together, both Clover and Liam start to see that they are attracted to one another, but their trust issues prevent them from fully commiting to a relationship. Clover fears that she's just a fling to Liam, and Liam's concerned that she may just be after his money (a thought that is planted in his head by his father). But overtime it becomes clearer that their are true feelings between them, and watching them learn to trust and fall in love was really sweet.

The writing:
The story flowed very smoothly, and although there weren't many surprises I really enjoyed the writing style. The only minor issue I had was how quickly and perfectly things worked out in the end. It wasn't just the couple getting their happily ever after (that's obviously going to happen in a romance book like this), but everything was tied up in a neat little bow. However, if I'm being honest it didn't really bother me that much, because I love sweet and fluffy endings like that.

FINAL WORD:
Four Leaf Clover was a really sweet and endearing story. With likeable characters and warm and friendly town setting, this book is perfect for any chick lit fan.

CONTENT:
Sexuality: medium / sex scene
Violence: mild / minor threats but no actual violence
Language: mild
Drugs & alcohol: mild

BLURB:
A mafia prince who doesn't want the crown.
A girl who has secrets of her own.
One love that they'll both have to fight for.

Nicky Ragusa lives his life inside the cage, circuiting the underground ring to escape his fate as the mafia prince. When Jackie Marks crashes into his life, he’ll take the fight outside the cage.

But the battle for Jackie’s heart comes with a steep price. Nicky’s father has wanted him to take over the family business for years, and the time for running is over. Now Nicky is right where his father has always wanted him: in the middle of a war.

All Nicky has ever wanted to do was fight. Now all he has to do is fight for her.

Not your regular fluffy romance!

REVIEW:
The story:
Fight For You is not your average NA romance. We have a Mafia prince, cage fighting, drugs, and gang wars with shootings and murder. Nicky Ragusa is the son of the Mafia boss and is expected to take over the family business. He has family money, an expensive car and a lavish apartment. The problem is Nicky has no interest in it all and would rather continue his career in cage fighting. But after Nicky hits Jackie with his car and takes her to hospital his life things gets even more complicated. And soon his not only fighting in the cage, but fighting for his family and for the love of Jackie. The question is, how far will Nicky go to protect the ones he loves?

The characters:
Nicky, son of a Mafia boss, is a total bad boy. Now I'm not talking about a guy with a few tatts that's man whored it around a bit, but is essentially a big softy. That's not Nicky. He has done some very bad things in the past and even more throughout the story. He's a complicated character, often having to make to decision between doing the right thing or the doing the right thing for his family - two very different things. Let's not forget he is in the Mafia after all.

Jackie, the ex girlfriend of a rival gang boss, is a pretty tough chick on the outside. She doesn't take anybody's crap and doesn't like to rely on anybody, especially not a man. But Nicky brings out a vulnerable side to her - one of which I wanted to see more of.

The romance:
I felt the romance was a little quick to develop. While it certainly wasn't insta-love, I would have liked to of seen them spend more time together and develop their feelings more. But once the romance got going you could really start to feel the connection between them. I like that Jackie doesn't let him call all the shots, they where equals in the relationship, and that's always important for me!

The writing:
I commend Magan for taking somewhat of a risk with this book. It doesn't follow the usual conventions of the NA romance genre and she pushes the limits with Nicky's character. Being written from Nicky's POV worked beautifully, as it gave a real insight into his thoughts and reasons behind his actions. I also loved the Mafia 'voice' she used. Whenever Nicky's father talked I swear I could hear Marlon Brando speaking it in my head!

FINAL WORD:
This is not your regular fluffy romance. Fight For You is dark and gritty and challenges the reader with unconventional characters and a gutsy storyline. Read at your own risk Capeesh?

CONTENT:
Sexuality: medium-strong / sex scenes
Violence: medium / gang violence, shootings and murder (not overly descriptive)
Language: strong / frequent f words
Drugs & alcohol: medium / several references to drug dealing and use

I should run. Push her away, bark at her… something to stop this train wreck from happening. Because if we kiss… I know there won’t be any stopping. No talking myself out of it. I’m not strong enough to resist the temptation once our lips touch… I just know it.
Alyssa is cruel though and she steps in just an inch closer, but it’s enough so her breasts brush lightly across the top of my stomach muscles, causing them to jump in response.
I go dizzy with want.
My fingers grip onto her a bit harder and I stare in her eyes, hoping there will be something there that brings me to my senses.
Big mistake. All I see is desire pooled deep, and the last vestige of restraint slips away.
I’m doomed, is what I think, just as I bring my mouth down on hers and pull her in tight, crushing her body into mine.

I've been dying to read Brody's story for ages and so far it does not disappoint! Brody is such a selfless character and the tension between him & Alyssa is HAWT!!

Title: Make It Count
Series: Bowler University #1
Author: Megan Erickson
Published: 3rd June 2014
Age Group: New Adult
Genre: Contemporary Romance

BLURB
Kat Caruso wishes her brain had a return policy, or at least a complaint hot-line. The defective organ is constantly distracted, terrible at statistics, and absolutely flooded with inappropriate thoughts about her boyfriend’s gorgeous best friend, Alec…who just so happens to be her brand new math tutor. Who knew nerd was so hot?

Kat usually goes through tutors like she does boyfriends—both always seem to bail when they realize how hopeless she is. It’s safer for her heart to keep everyone at arm’s reach. But Alec is always stepping just a little too close.

Alec Stone should not be fantasizing about Kat. She’s adorable, unbelievably witty, and completely off limits. He’d never stab his best friend in the back…

But when secrets are revealed, the lines of loyalty are blurred. To make it count, Alec must learn messy human emotions can’t be solved like a trigonometry function. And Kat has to trust Alec may be the first guy to want her for who she is, and not in spite of it.

EXCERPT
Kat gathered her books and stuffed them into her plaid Burberry messenger bag, then headed toward the front doors, smoothie from the library snack shop in hand. Head bent, fiddling with the clasp of her bag, she stumbled into a wall of human on the pavement outside.
“Oh, I’m sorry—” Her voice dropped out when she realized the solid flesh belonged to Alec, Max’s best friend.
She’d only met him once or twice before he’d moved in with Max this semester and every time, he cocked his eyebrow with a half frown like he knew something she didn’t. Which he actually did, since he had brainy superpowers. Smarter than a speeding Einstein. Able to leap over C-minus students like her in a single bound.
She didn’t trust people that smart. And she didn’t trust a guy who didn’t ogle her ass or leer at her boobs like every other member of the straight male species on the planet.
Right now, that raised-eyebrow frown pinned her where she stood. His pale green eyes behind thick black frames roamed over her shoulder to the library and then back to her. With his pin-stripe button-down, dark jeans with Converse shoes and hair styled in a short, messy pompadour, he looked like a nerdy Elvis.
His frown morphed into a smile when he spotted the smoothie in her hand, and she definitely didn’t notice his full lips. “You know, you don’t have to venture into the forbidden zone just to get a smoothie.”
Oooh. The jerk. She glanced around surreptitiously, then leaned in and spoke in a low voice. “Just play it cool. Don’t let it slip someone like me snuck in the library.” She gripped his forearm and whispered. “Password today is rosebud.”
His face blanked and he looked at her like he’d never seen her before. Kat debated whether or not that was an improvement over his other look.
But then those intelligent eyes narrowed and a smirk curled his lips. “I know. We nerds get an e-mail every morning.”
See? He always needed the last word. She propped a hand on her hip and leaned in. “Well, sounds like you have a mole. Might want to look into that.”
He opened his mouth but she cut him off. “Just looking out for you guys. Anyway, see ya around!”
Before he could shoot back a snarky comeback, Kat skirted around him and bounded down the stairs. She chalked that up as Kat 1, Alec 0.

I remember at first I was checking all my stats and excited as my followers number was growing. And while of course it's lovely to have new followers I'm more excited by the new friendships I'm making now! I love to chat with people on twitter and fangirl over book boyfriend etc!

Things I'd Like To Achieve Over The Next Year:
Comment more!
I've already starting commenting a lot more this year, and it's been great getting to know bloggers and what types of books they like etc! After all that's the whole reason why I started my blog, to get to know other book lovers and share my passion with them! If you'd like me to check out your blog, just post your link in the comments :)

Silver Eye Designs coming soon…
I plan on launching my freelance graphic design business online. I've already been freelancing for a number of years, but it's only been locally. I'm hoping to launch my book cover and swag design page by June! I'm extremely excited about this (and a little nervous) as this has been my dream for a long long time!

Best Things to Happen From Blogging:

Meeting my favourite author Jessica Shirvington
My first book launch & signing - such an exciting moment for me!!

Discovering Indie Authors
I used to just shop in the major book sellers, so without blogging I never would have discovered so many amazingly talented authors! I love spreading the word when I've found an awesome new indie book that deserves major fangirling!

And of course making so many new bookish friends from all over the world!
Since none of my friends read, being able to fangirl over books with all of you has been of of the best things to come from blogging. So thank you!!!
