Feature & Follow Friday #15

"The Feature & Follow is hosted by TWO hosts, Parajunkee of Parajunkee's View and Alison of Alison Can Read."

Q: Back to School time! Create a reading list for the imaginary English Lit class you'll be teaching this semester.

Well I would want to try and choose books that teenagers are going to enjoy reading and learn something from them:

Looking For Alibrandi by Melina Marchetta- her books always have such strong messages about growing up.

Harry Potter By J.K. Rowling - it's one of the reasons I found my love of reading, and I'm not alone. So I think these books can inspire many kids to love reading too!

Emma by Jane Austen - Although Persuasion is my favourite of Austen's novels, I think Emma had some good messages in it. I remember one of our school's assignments was to compare it to the movie Clueless which in was loosely based on.

The Diary Of Anne Frank by Anne Frank - This one really effected me when I read it in school.

Tomorrow When the War Began by John Marsden - A great entertaining book that makes you question what you would do in the same situation these kids are in

That's all I can think of for now, although when I see everyone else's lists I'll probably realise how many I missed :)

Thank you so much for stopping by - you can follow me by Bloglovin (preferred) or Twitter

  2. Ah...I'm going to endure all reading all these books in your class, Ma'am, as long as I'm free to read all the 7 Potter books.

Followed you through Twitter and Bloglovin.

  3. Love the list! :) I definitely agree about Anne Frank, it's a must for teens to read. The Aussies and Brits are really represented here - but then, they do write some of the best! Old follower passing through.

  4. Anne Frank is a great choice. Her story is really heartbreaking but it makes the horrors of the Holocaust relateable.

  5. I read Looking For Alibrandi for school! In Year 10, I think. It's probably the best school assigned book I've read. Other classes that year also read Tomorrow When the War Began, which I read later. I think we even started The Diary of Anne Frank one time...

And this is the part where I admit I haven't read Harry Potter and run away to hide...

    1. We read Looking for Alibrandi too & I loved it! I actually enjoyed that class!!

Now as for you not having read Harry Potter, I think that deserves a weeks detention...where you will sit and read the entire series (which is actually a pretty cool detention is you ask me hehe!)

  9. I was going to say that you could make them watch "Clueless" after reading "Emma" & one of your previous teachers already beat me to it! What a great assignment! I wish I'd had to do that when I was in high school. :)

Here's my FF. I got a bit off-topic and ran with it, but I think it's interesting anyway (of course I do; I wrote it!):
